ROME (Dow Jones)--Eni SpA (E), Italy's biggest oil and natural gas company by revenue, said Friday Chief Executive Paolo Scaroni met with Tunisia's Prime Minister Mohamed Ghannouchi to discuss the future of the planned Transmed gas pipeline, as well as the development of two oil and gas fields. In a statement, Eni said Tunisia's industry and energy minister was also present at Friday's meeting in the capital Tunis. The Rome-based company didn't provide further details of what was discussed regarding the pipeline project. Transmed is a pipeline linking gas-hungry Italy to Algerian fields through Tunisia and the Mediterranean Sea. Eni also said Friday's talks concerned the development of two oil and gas fields located in the Gulf of Hammamet that once in production will make "substantial" contribution to Tunisia's energy supply. Eni's current production in the North African country, where it has been present since 1963, averages about 17,000 barrels of oil equivalent a day.
