Serbian oil and gas group NIS said it has appointed Gazprom executive Ignat Dirks to its board of directors

Dirks currently serves as the first deputy head of department 816 at Gazprom, which is responsible for the Russian energy company's financial and economic policy, according to his biography on NIS' website. In the past, he held several positions at Russian lender Gazprombank, including head of the capital markets lending department.

In a filing with the Belgrade bourse on Friday, NIS said Dirks is filling a vacancy after Pavel Oderov's resignation, without providing further details.

Oderov was appointed to NIS' board in April 2020.

Russia's Gazprom Neft holds a 44.85% stake in NIS, followed by Serbia's government with 29.87%, and Gazprom with 11.30%.

In January, the U.S. Department of the Treasury imposed sanctions on NIS, as part of wider sanctions against the Russian energy sector. The enforcement of the sanctions was, in the meantime, postponed twice and they are now set to take effect on April 18.
