French state-controlled nuclear group Areva (CEI.FR) Monday said that the delayed third-generation nuclear plant Olkiluoto 3 it is building in Finland as part of a consortium with Germany 's Siemens AG (SI) will start operations at the end of 2012.

The project, which has already faced considerable delays and cost overruns, was originally scheduled to be in operation in 2009.

Areva said the piping installation is now in progress and the installation of the main components will begin in the coming days.

Areva and Siemens are building the plant for Finnish utility Teollisuuden Voima Oyi.
