Russia has no plans to change ExxonMobil (XOM) as the operator of the Sakhalin-1 project in Russia's Far East, the Interfax news agency reports Wednesday, citing the country's Energy Minister Sergey Shmatko.

"The energy ministry has not, and is not, putting this up for question," Shmatko said.

A representative of
Russia 's Audit Chamber said Tuesday ExxonMobil could be replaced by a Russian company as operator of the Sakhalin-1 project, but noted that the issue isn't being examined at present.

"We will take the Audit Chamber's opinion into account and find out why it drew such conclusions," said Shmatko.
