The partners in Azerbaijan 's Shah Deniz 2 gas field will make a final investment decision on the project in 2013 and choose between two pipelines vying to carry its gas to Europe in June, Al Cook, BP PLC (BP) vice president for the project said Wednesday.

Gas from Shah Deniz 2 will be transported to
Europe via Turkey , where it will link up with either the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline or Nabucco-West. Deliveries are expected to start in 2018, with Turkey receiving 6 billion cubic meters per year and Europe 10 bcm.

The European Union has long supported the delivery of gas from
Azerbaijan to reduce its dependence on Russian supplies. Russia in December started construction of a pipeline to take its gas to southeast Europe via the Black Sea by 2016.

Shah Deniz is being developed by BP, Statoil ASA (STO) of
Norway , France 's Total S.A. (TOT) and other foreign firms along with Azerbaijan 's state energy company Socar.
