Seeking to reach a compromise among EU member states and
differentiating views across Europe, the European Commission is expected
to publish on November 30 its winter package, a long-awaited, important
piece of the Energy Union strategy, in an effort to modernise the
economy and make the most of the clean energy transition.
“Internal preparatory work is on-going with final adoption of the
Energy Union package foreseen for November 30. So stay tuned,” a
European Commission energy spokeswoman told New Europe on November 22.
Asked what’s the package about, the Commission said it will present
regulatory proposals and facilitating measures that aim to modernise the
economy and make the most of the clean energy transition by creating
jobs and growth in new economic sectors and business models.
“The regulatory proposals and facilitating measures to be presented
in the package aim at accelerating, transforming and consolidating the
EU economy’s clean energy transition,” the Commission energy spokeswoman
said, adding that the legislative proposals would “cover energy
efficiency, renewable energy, the design of the electricity market,
security of supply and governance rules for the Energy Union”.
The winter package aims at helping the EU deliver the ambitious goals
under the Paris Agreement. “With this upcoming package the Commission
will present the key remaining legislative proposals to fully implement
the EU’s 2030 climate and energy framework,” the Commission spokeswoman
said.
