German wind-park developer EnerSys plans to invest 12 million euros in the construction of its second wind park in Croatia, to start by end 2006. “The wind park would be located in Orlice, near the southern Adriatic town of Sibenik, and would have an installed capacity of some 10 megawatts,” the CEO of EnerSys Croatian unit EnerSys-Inzenjering, Zeljko Samardic, told SeeNews. EnerSys has invested around 13 million euros into the building of its first 12MW wind park near Sibenik, which is expected to begin operating by the summer. EnerSys-Inzenjering has signed a 15-year contract with Croatian state-owned power monopoly Hrvatska Elektroprivreda for it to buy the electricity it is to produce. Croatia’s Adria Wind Power launched the country’s first wind park last February. The 6.4-million-euro facility on the island of Pag has been designed to generate 5MW of power at maximum output. According to energy experts, Croatia is one of the most promising countries for exploring wind power as it has a long coastline suitable for wind power and it lacks internal fossil energy resources like gas or oil.
