Israel’s Interim Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said yesterday that he expects Israel to sign a deal to receive gas supplies from Russia in about a year. Olmert told a Moscow radio station after a meeting with top officials from Russian giant Gazprom that a decision was made to reach a final agreement quickly for Israel to receive gas supplies from Russia through a pipeline via Turkey. “We have an agreement in principle and I think in a year’s time we can sign an agreement,” Olmert said. Olmert yesterday met with Gazprom Chief Executive Alexi Miller on his visit to Israel. After the meeting, Olmert’s office said in a statement, “The possibility that Gazprom will supply gas to Israel by 2011 was discussed at the meeting.”
