Greek consumers enjoy the lowest electricity prices among the EU countries, according to Eurostat, the statistical body of the European Union.
In a research presented Monday, Eurostat said that the price for 100 kw was EUR7.01 in Greece in January of 2006 compared with the European average of EUR14.16.
The low tax rate combined with the confined profit margin of Public Power Corp, the country’s main electricity producer were cited.
The electricity bills in Greece are burdened only by the value added tax, which stands at EUR0.58 per 100 KW while the respective figure in the eurozone is EUR3.38.
In industry, Greece also offers low electricity rates, with EUR7.27 per 100 KW.
