The 11th National “Energy & Development” Conference organized by the Institute for Energy for South East Europe, was concluded successfully on Wednesday at the Evgenidio Foundation.
Deputy Foreign Minister Euripides Stylianidis referred to the need for the establishment of a common energy market in South-Eastern Europe and the benefits of it for Greece and the other countries of the region. Mr Stylianidis presented the government’s plans in energy, which give emphasis to the promotion of the alternative sources, and routes for energy transport. Theodoros Skylakakis , general secretary of International Economic Affairs and Development Cooperation in the Foreign Ministry, referred to the national energy policy in the wider South East Europe.
The development of energy sources was the main topic of Valentin Kunev’s speech , general director of BBSPA. Nikos Fridas, chairman of Kosovo Regulatory Authority, provided details of the country’s upcoming tender for the lignite mines. Dr Kevin Rosner of Energy Defence Centre in Switzerland referred to the terrorism in energy and energy supplies security.
Trevor Morgan of International Energy Agency explained the basic points of the World Energy Outlook for 2006, published earlier in the month.
Oil transport from Russia and the Caspian region through the Black Sea was the topic of Christos Dimas’ speech, Christos Dimas is the director of Transbalkan Pipeline SA. Mr Dimas referred to the comparative benefits of Burgas-Alexandroupolis pipeline over other pipelines and especially to the Samsun-Ceyhan one.
Naske Afezzoli of EGL, said that his company will proceed with the construction of Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) which will carry natural gas from Russia, Caspia and Middle East to Italy through Greece and Albania.
In the seventh session, titled ‘Renewable Energy Sources and New Technologies” attracted interest with speakers elaborating the topic with innovative views.
A round table discussion followed and finally IENE’s chairman Costis Stambolis closed the conference summing up the conclusion of the two-day event.
