The regulatory council of the “Energy Community of South-East Europe” convened for the first time on Monday in Athens, 14 months after the founding treaty of the Community.
In the meeting, the European Commission was represented by its Director Heinz Hilbrecht, while Sir John Mogg, chairman of the European Regulatory Council of Electricity and Natural Gas honoured the event. Representatives of the energy regulatory authorities of the 14 countries which participate in the treaty attended the convention.
Slave Iwanovski, chairman of the FYROM regulatory energy authority was appointed unanimously as chairman of the newly-established body.
The institutional role of the Regulatory Council, the regulatory convergence between the European Community markets and the Energy Community markets and cooperation matters were on the agenda of the body’s first convention.
The whole event was supported by the Greek Regulatory Energy Authority.
The Regulatory Council will meet again in Athens in February of 2007.
