LONDON (Dow Jones)--U.K. ministers gave their backing to government plans for a new generation of nuclear power stations at Tuesday's cabinet meeting, just two days ahead of Thursday's announcement on their plans, The Financial Times reports without citing sources.
The Guardian newspaper also reported that U.K. ministers have given their backing to new nuclear power stations but added that the ministers are not likely to support the nuclear industry's call for a guaranteed minimum price for carbon.
Instead ministers will stress that they expect to see carbon prices rise after 2012 when the next phase of the European Union's emissions trading scheme tis due to come into force, The Guardian reported.
