The European works' council of Gaz de France (1020848.FR) has enough information to give an opinion on the company's planned tie-up with Suez (SZE.FR) when it meets later Tuesday, French business newspaper La Tribune reported Tuesday without saying where it got the information.
While its view is not binding, French rules demand that the works' council, which is made up of union representatives, give an opinion - be it positive or negative - before the tie-up can go ahead.
La Tribune reported, and GdF has said, that if its European works' council gives a definitive opinion Tuesday, the next stage of the process is to get a view from the central works' council. GdF sees this happening in April.
Both GdF and Suez hope to conclude the tie-up in the first half of 2008.
