Electricite de France (1024251.FR) has threatened to stop delivering used nuclear fuel for reprocessing by Areva (CEI.FR) at its recycling plant in Marcoule, French weekly magazine Challenges reports Friday on its Web site.
According to the French news magazine, talks between Areva and EDF have dragged on for months and March 14 was the deadline for the two companies to renegociate the financial terms for the fuel recycling.
The refusal by EDF to furnish fuel to the factory could result in unemployment for some of the 1,300 Areva workers, the magazine added.
EDF declined to comment while Areva said it doesn't comment on the content of its commercial discussions although it added that its objective remains "to calmly reach an agreement".
