Russian state-controlled gas giant OAO Gazprom (GAZP.RS) said Wednesday it will continue efforts to strengthen energy ties with Iran.
Gazprom head Alexei Miller met in Moscow with the head of the National Iranian Oil Co., Seyfollah Jashnsaz, to discuss partnership issues.
At the meeting, both sides confirmed their interest in a long-term partnership in the energy sector, Gazprom said in a statement.
Wednesday's meeting follows a memorandum of understanding between the two companies in July aimed at collaborating on development of Iran's oil and natural gas fields.
Gazprom has already made investments in Iran's giant South Pars gas field worth an estimated $2 billion together with France's Total SA (TOT) and Malaysia's Petronas.
In February, Gazprom agreed to develop more phases of the South Pars gas field and enter the country's oil sector.
Iran is the fourth-largest oil producer worldwide and has the world's second-largest natural gas reserves after Russia.
