Russia's Sobinbank has been bought by ZAO Gazenergoprombank, a bank affiliated with state-controlled gas giant OAO Gazprom (GAZP.RS), Gazenergoprombank said late Wednesday.
The deal was closed under the direct support of Russia's Central Bank, Gazenergoprombank said in a statement. No financial details were given.
Russia's financial sector has been seriously hit by the global crisis. Sobinbank is the third commercial bank to receive state support, amid the crisis.
Late last month, Russia's state development bank VEB bought a 98% stake in troubled Svyaz Bank. And earlier that month, St. Petersburg-based investment bank Kit Finance had to sell out to fund manager U.K. Lider in order to meet overdue debt payment.
