Gas supply to the European Union won't be affected by disputes between Ukraine and Russia, the European Commission said Friday.
"Both parties have committed to respect the transit of gas to European customers," E.U. commission spokesman Ferran Tarradellas said during a press conference, adding that the E.U. is continuing to closely monitor the situation.
In 2006, a gas cutoff to Ukraine resulted in supply reductions to western European countries for several days because they get gas through pipelines that cross Ukraine.
