Russia will bring on stream only about a half to a third of the new generating capacity targeted by the country's general plan for the electricity sector in the next five years, the Vedomosti daily said Friday, citing Deputy Energy Minister Vyacheslav Sinyugin.
Under an ambitious privatization plan, power plants were sold off to investors for RUB447 billion under former electricity chief Anatoly Chubais. This is the first time officials have conceded that the plan may need corrections, the daily said.
