German energy utility E.ON AG (EOAN.XE) said Friday it had started production at its Rita gas field in the North Sea.
"This was an extremely challenging development from a technical point of view and our teams have done a fantastic job to bring the field on line," said Martin Cole, managing director of E.ON Ruhrgas U.K.
Gas from the Rita field will come ashore at the Theddlethorpe Gas Terminal in Lincolnshire, England, to supply the U.K. market.
