Italian oil and gas company Edison SpA (EDN.MI) said Tuesday it has discovered new hydrocarbon deposits in its offshore Abu Qir field, in the Nile Delta.
In a statement, Edison said the concession could produce 30% more gas and oil than previously announced, with the field due to start production in 2010.
Edison said in January the entire field will allow it to more than double its annual gas output to 2.6 billion cubic meters by 2013.
The Nile Delta is the key area of Egypt's growing gas sector.
