Terna SpA (TRN.MI), Italy's biggest power grid by capacity, said Friday the country's electricity demand for March fell 7% on the year to 26.6 terawatt-hours, as consumption slowed throughout the nation.
In a statement, Terna said power demand fell 7.9% in the first quarter of 2009.
"The negative trend in the consumption of electricity won't cramp Terna's development activity," the company said in the statement.
The Rome-based grid said last month's power demand slipped 8.2% in the north, fell 7.1% in the center of the peninsula, and 4.6% in the south.
