Polish gas monopoly Polskie Gornictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo will sign a long-term contract to buy liquified natural gas within weeks, company deputy president Radoslaw Dudzinski told Gazeta Prawna daily newspaper.
Poland plans to build an LNG terminal on the Baltic Sea cost by 2014 to diversify its gas supply routes.
A contract to buy LNG is crucial for securing financing of the terminal estimated to cost at least 500 million euros.
