A unit at Slovakia's Vojany coal-fired power station that was shut down after a fire last week will resume operations by the end of May, power producer Slovenske Elektrarne said Thursday.

Reconstruction work on the east Slovak plant's other unit, which was also closed, will take longer as it was the source of the fire, the company said in a press release.

The two units, with an output of 110 megawatts each, are part of a 880MW facility comprising two power plants.

Nobody was injured in the blaze, and there was no harm caused to the environment, said Slovenske Elektrarne.

The plant declined to elaborate on the damage but the Markiza TV channel has put the cost at at EUR3 million.
