Utility EDP Energias de Portugal SA (EDP.LB) will invest about EUR3 billion to build five dams and to boost the capacity of six others until 2016, state-owned news agency Lusa reported late Thursday.
According to Lusa, the investments will increase EDP's installed hydroelectric capacity by over 2,900 megawatts, 61% more than the company's current capacity.
