Romania's largest gas producer Romgaz Medias reported in a 31% fall in first-quarter net profit to 208.6 million lei ($66 million), news agency Mediafax reports the company as saying Tuesday.
It reported revenue of RON951.8 million in the first three months of the year, down 12% from the same period a year earlier.
The state-owned gas producer forecast revenue of around RON3.2 billion for 2009, down 4% from 2008; gross profit at RON750 million, down 1.2% from a year earlier.
Romgaz's gas production is forecast to fall 1.4% in 2009, at 5.77 billion cubic meters.
Romgaz, together with Romanian oil company Petrom (SNP.RO), account for two thirds of Romania's annual gas consumption of 17-18 billion cubic meters.
