The French government has asked Electricite de France SA (EDF.FR) to support a consortium led by Areva SA (CEI.FR) in its bid to build a nuclear reactor in the United Arab Emirate of Abu Dhabi, Les Echos reports Wednesday, citing an unidentified source.
GDF Suez SA (GSZ.FR) and Total SA (FP.FR) are the other French companies in the consortium which aims to build two or three nuclear reactors in Abu Dhabi. The French state hopes EDF could boost the chances of the consortium receiving a final offer.
EDF declined to comment.
