The European Commission is looking very closely at the gas situation between Russia and Ukraine, a spokesman said Friday.
Russia recently wrote a letter to the commission president Jose Manuel Barroso, spokesman Johannes Laitenberger said during a regular press briefing. "They have raised the issue and now the commission is looking very closely at the situation," he said.
Russia's OAO Gazprom (GAZP.RS) Tuesday said the situation relating to Ukrainian payments for natural gas in May is "very serious."
