Turkey, Romania and some other countries are showing interest in Russia's South Stream gas pipeline project, Russian news agency RIA Novosti reports Monday, citing the chief executive of Russian natural gas company OAO Gazprom (GAZP.RS).

"We see a large interest being displayed by countries that are not yet participating in the [South Stream] project. Yes, indeed, there are a number of countries showing interest in taking part," Alexei Miller is quoted as saying.

The project currently involves Bulgaria, Serbia, Hungary, Italy and Greece.
