China
will
add wind power installed capacity of 12 gigawatts this year, doubling the
nation's total wind power capacity, Li Junfeng, deputy director of the Energy
Research Institute under the National Development and Reform Commission, said
Monday.
The nation had wind power installed capacity of 12 gigawatts in 2008.
The fast growth of wind power contributes to getting close to the government's
goal of raising clean energy's share of the country's overall energy mix.
"There's some difficulty for the Chinese government to meet the goal of
increasing clean energy's share to 10% of the total energy mix, but it's not
very difficult", Li said.
Hydropower would account for 8 percentage points of the 10% growth, while wind
power would account for one percentage point, he added.
China,
already the world's fourth-largest wind power market in terms of installed
capacity by the end of 2008, recently raised its target for wind power capacity
to 30 gigawatts by 2010 and more than triple to 100 gigawatts by 2020.
