Large industrial companies in Poland may experience shortages of natural gas in January if subzero temperatures return after the holiday season, Polish daily Rzeczpospolita reports Tuesday.

Shortages of gas are likely because of the failure to finalize an agreement on increasing supplies from Russia to Poland, the daily says.

Gas talks between Poland and Russia are stalled as Russian gas monopoly OAO Gazprom (GAZP.RS) refuses to agree to pay around 240 million zlotys ($82 million) in transit fees it owes to a Poland-based pipeline operator in which it and Polish gas monopoly PGNiG (PGN.WA) each hold 48% of shares, the daily adds.
