China's power generators may face losses next year following hikes in
contract coal prices, the China Electric News reported Tuesday.
The Shanxi Jincheng Anthracite Mining Group and Lu'an Group will raise contract
prices for coal supplies to the nation's five major power generators next year
by CNY40-CNY50 per metric ton while the
Henan
province-based Zhenzhou Coal Industry Group will hike prices by CNY135/ton, or
by 33% compared with early this year, the paper said.
The particularly large increases in Henan coal prices are due to the shutdown
of 80% of small coal mines in the province, which has led to tight supplies, it
added.
