PetroChina Co. (PTR) has taken delivery of 65,000 metric tons of liquefied natural gas in Shanghai, stepping up action to ease weather-driven shortages of gas in eastern China, parent company China National Petroleum Corp. said Monday.

The cargo from Russia arrived at the Yangshan deepwater port in Shanghai on the afternoon of Jan. 2, CNPC said in a statement on its Web site.

PetroChina is leasing the Shanghai LNG receiving terminal from China National Offshore Oil Corp. and buying LNG cargoes in the spot market under measures approved by China's government in early December to alleviate the gas shortages.
