The coal supply volume in contracts signed between Chinese coal
producers and users reached 446.99 million metric tons as of Thursday early
morning, according to China Coal Trade & Development Association.
The figure increased quickly from 306.96 million tons coal contracts signed as
of Tuesday.
China's top economy planning agency, National Development and Reform Commission,
has set a January 14 deadline for all coal contracts.
"No matter whether coal prices can be agreed or not, the trade volume can
be settled first by two parties," said Great Wall Securities analyst Lai
Lihui.
The total supply volume of coal contracts is expected to exceed the railway
priority transportation quota of 906 million tons, China Electric Power News
said Thursday, quoting China Coal Trade & Development Association official
Liang Dunshi.
China's coal demand in 2010 is expected to rise 5%-7% on year to around 3.1
billion tons, Lai said.
