This
weekend marked an historic moment for the TAP project. On Saturday, 1st of
October 2011, we submitted ourproposal to transport 10 billion cubic metres of
gas a year from the giant Shah Deniz II field in Azerbaijan to the energy
markets of Europe.By opening up the Southern Gas Corridor, TAP would help bring
the new sources of gas from the Caspian region that will ensureEurope’s
security of supply.
We believe that
ours is a winning
bid, being the only project that consistently meetseach one of
the eightstringent criteria set bythe Shah Deniz Consortium for a sound and
sustainable solution to their needs. TAP not only offers the best method of
delivering Caspian gas to European markets. It is also the shortest and most
financially viable of the proposed options, is scalable and provides an
efficient and cost-effective means of realising the increasing volumes of gas
from the Caspian – and further afield – as they become available.
