Alstom Grid, a unit of French power
engineering company Alstom SA (ALO.FR), said Monday it was awarded contracts
worth EUR30 million by Power Grid Corporation of India (532898.BY) for the
supply and construction of a high voltage substation located at Bareily, in the
Uttar Pradesh State of India.
MAIN FACTS:
- Under the terms of the new
contract, Alstom Grid will deliver the 765 kV transformers for this substation,
manufactured locally in Alstom Grid's factory located at Vadodara, in the state
of Gujarat, in West India.
- This factory, inaugurated in March
2009, is one of the eight Alstom Grid manufacturing units in India set up to
meet the future needs of the country, as the transmission voltages move to
Extra and Ultra High Voltage levels.
- The other 765 kV products for the
substation will be delivered from Alstom Grid's manufacturing facilities located
in the Indian cities of Chennai, Hosur and Noida.
- While the Indian power generation
market typically increases by around 8% per year, the power transmission market
is growing even faster at around 10%, lifted by investments in Extra High
Voltage transmission network to improve the Indian inter-state electricity
grid.
