Bulgaria's newly elected president Rosen Plevneliev has vowed to seek a public debate on the project for the country's second nuclear plant at the Danubian town of Belene.

Bulgaria's newly elected president Rosen Plevneliev has vowed to seek a public debate on the project for the country's second nuclear plant at the Danubian town of Belene.

Bulgaria will definitely have to articulate in 2012 its stance on the major infrastructure projects - including Belene, ensuring full transparency of the relevant decisions and their argumentation, news daily Monitor on Tuesday quoted Plevneliev as saying during a visit to the town of Pleven.

"It is very important for a project like Belene to have a strong business case behind it," he added.

Plevneliev further recalled that the government had vowed some two years ago that the project will also make sense as a long-term commitment alongside its business rationale.
