Turkey hopes to restore gas supplies to Greece by Wednesday after technical problems stopped gas destined for Greece reaching Turkey from Azerbaijan and Iran, Turkish energy minister Taner Yildiz said Tuesday.

"We supply gas to
Greece
when
we receive it," Yildez said.
Turkish media reported that
Turkey
halted its gas supply to
Greece
Tuesday, citing Turkish energy ministry officials.
Turkish state news agency Anadolu said that gas had been cut from
Azerbaijan
and
reduced from
Iran
"due to a technical failure between the two countries compressor stations.
The flow of energy to Turkish households had not been affected."
Kenan Yavuz, chief executive of Turkish energy company Turkas told NTV:
"this is a technical problem which will soon be resolved."
Turkey
is
dependent on energy supplies from abroad and it imports natural gas from
Iran
,
Russia
and
Azerbaijan
.
Azerbaijan
is
the country's second largest gas supplier after
Russia
.
In late December,
Turkey
and
Azerbaijan
signed a deal for the construction of a new joint gas pipeline project, the
Trans Anadolu pipeline, which will stretch from
Turkey
's
eastern border to its western border, with the aim of exporting Azerbaijani
natural gas to
Europe
.
