Bulgaria's energy ministry said that funding applications can now be submitted for 110 million euro ($144.5 million) in grant financing that the Kozloduy International Decommissioning Support Fund (KIDSF) will disburse for energy sector projects.

The application deadline is August 31. A first round of appraisal and ranking activities is planned for projects submitted before March 31 and if there is residual resource a second round of project selection will be held, the ministry said in a statement on Wednesday.

Eligible projects fall within the following categories: high-priority projects in the electricity, heating energy and gas supply sectors; energy efficiency projects for government or municipal buildings; energy efficiency projects for municipal street lighting; and projects aiming to improve the energy efficiency of electricity and heat supply.

The fund, established in 2001, supports projects to reform and modernise both the supply and demand side of energy use in Bulgaria. It was set up under a framework agreement between the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the Bulgarian government.
