The energy ministries of Greece and Italy issued a joint statement
reiterating their support for the Interconnector Turkey-Greece-Italy (ITGI)
pipeline project.
In response to recent media reports, both energy ministries underlined
that the issue is still open and the two governments support the ITGI project
for transporting Azeri natural gas to Europe as the most suitable for the
implementation of the Southern Gas Corridor, state-owned Athens News Agency
reported.
The statement follows media speculations that the ITGI pipeline has been
excluded as an alternative option in the implementation of the so-called
Southern Gas Corridor.
The two ministries stated that ITGI is the most advanced and mature
project among the candidates, but concluded that negotiations should continue to
study all alternatives for the opening of the Southern
Corridor.
ITGI is a joint venture between Italy's Edison and Greece's
DEPA.
