February fuel oil imports for power generation rose 3.3% from January to about
800,000 metric tons, as peak winter season and lost nuclear power boosted
domestic demand, government data showed Friday.
The imports were up about 215% from last February. A massive earthquake
disabled most of
Japan
's
nuclear power generation capacity in March last year.
Fuel oil sales for power generation rose to 2.47 million tons in February, up
5% on month and 71.2% from a year ago, data posted by the Ministry of Economy,
Trade and Industry on its website showed.
Japan
's
fuel oil imports have remained robust despite multi-year high flat-price
levels.
Traders expect imports to dip with the end of peak winter demand, only to
rebound as stockpiling for summer kicks in.
