Ukraine
is ready to take an active part in
construction of the Transanatolian gas pipeline. The statement came
from Ukrainian Prime Minister Nikolay Azarov during the meeting with Turkish
Premier Ali Babacan.
“Cooperation in energy sector is important to us because we are currently
actively diversifying gas supplies. Therefore, we are closely watching your
talks with
Azerbaijan
on construction of the Transcaspian
gas pipeline.
In addition, we are ready to take part in this project. I mean both financial
component and the supply of pipes, compressors and necessary equipment”, the
head of the Ukrainian government said.
He noted that Ukraine and Turkey could seriously coordinate their positions in
energy sector. Azarov offered to discuss cooperation in this sphere during the
fourth session of the bilateral working group on issues of energy to be held in
Kiev in the nearest future.
In turn, vice premier of Turkey noted that Turkey and Ukraine have a huge
potential of cooperation in energy sphere. He also added that the construction
of the Transanatolian gas pipeline will be discussed at the session of the
working group.
