At the moment electricity prices for Poles are being set by the state-regulator
URE at an artificially low level compared with market prices utilities charge
businesses.
The daily estimates the increase in electricity prices could add some 0.6-0.7
percentage points to
Poland
's
already high inflation.
Earlier in May the monetary policy council increased interest rates by 25 basis
points in order to fight persistently high inflation, which has been at about
4% since November 2011.
