A total of 250,087 megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity worth 121.5 million levs ($80.7 million/62.1 million euro) were generated from renewable energy sources in Southeast Bulgaria in July-September, power distributor EVN Bulgaria said.

A total of 250,087 megawatt hours (MWh) of electricity worth 121.5 million levs ($80.7 million/62.1 million euro) were generated from renewable energy sources in Southeast Bulgaria in July-September, power distributor EVN Bulgaria said.

Of the total, Bulgaria's power grid operator NEK has to reimburse 98.9 million levs to power distributor EVN Bulgaria Elektrosnabdiavane, EVN Bulgaria said in a press release on Thursday.

NEK, however, has so far reimbursed just 18.6 million levs following the recent introduction of a new fee for access to the national grid, it added.

The latest peak of renewable energy production was registered from 1300 hrs to 1400 hrs on September 1 when registered power load from renewable power installations reached 385 megawatts, equivalent to 38% of the total power consumption by all EVN clients in Bulgaria in the one-hour period.

The rise in the volume of electricity produced from renewable sources was mainly due to the large number of new photovoltaic plants connected to the grid and the favourable weather conditions in the period under review, EVN Bulgaria said.
