Turkey's Besa Group plans to build a coal-fired thermal power plant with an
installed capacity of 1,320 megawatts electrical (MWe) in the southern Turkish
province of Adana, the Ankara Chamber of Commerce (ATO) said.
The plant,
which will be built in the district of Yumurtalik, is estimated to cost $1.2
billion (903 million euro) and to produce 4,950 gigawatt hours of power a year,
ATO said in a statement published on its website on Friday. It will run on coal
imported from South Africa, Russia and South America.
Besa Group will
initially build and power up one unit with a 660 MWe capacity. In a second
stage, the company will add a second unit with the same installed capacity. The
plant will have a licence to operate eight hours per day for 49
years.
Besa Group has already filed an application with the country's
energy market regulator for the project.
