Kuwait Energy Co., a privately owned oil and gas explorer and producer, said Wednesday it made a new oil discovery at its El Salmiya-2 well in Egypt's Western Desert.

Oil was encountered within the Kharita Formation in the El Salmiya-2 well and
initial tests showed a production flow rate of 3,530 barrels of oil per day,
the company said in an emailed statement.
The discovery is the sixth exploration success in the Abu Sennan concession and
Kuwait Energy's 21st discovery in
Egypt
since
2008.
Kuwait Energy is the operator of the concession, in which it holds a 50%
working interest.
Egypt
's
Beach Petroleum Pty Ltd. holds a 22% working interest and Dover Investments
Ltd. has a 28% working interest. Their main partner is state-owned Egyptian
General Petroleum Corp.
Kuwait Energy's Egyptian operations account for the largest share of the
company's total working interest production.
