Safi Energy Company, a joint venture of GDF Suez SA (GSZ.FR), Japan's Mitsui & Co. Ltd. (8031.TO) and Nareva Holding, Tuesday said it has been awarded a contract to operate a coal-fired power plant in Morocco, for an undisclosed amount.

megawatts and will be located near

.
The plant is expected to start producing in 2017, the company also said.
