European Union tariffs on Chinese solar panels will apply for two years
from December 6, the European Commission said Monday after the measures won
backing from member states.
The EU's trade commissioner struck a deal with
China
in
July resolving the multibillion-dollar, anti-dumping dispute. The deal set a
minimum price and volume limit for solar panel imports from
China
. Any
Chinese exporters who don't comply will be hit by tariffs which rose to an
average of 47.6% in August.
July's deal came after member states, particularly
Germany
,
balked at the prospect of an escalating trade dispute with
China
over
the import of the solar panels.
China is
the world's largest producer of solar panels.
