Energy company Cheniere Energy Inc. agreed to two contracts worth a
combined $9.5 billion with Bechtel Oil, Gas & Chemicals to build liquefied
natural gas trains and facilities in
Corpus
Christi
,
Texas
.
Starting next year, engineering and construction management company Bechtel
will build three liquefied natural gas trains, three liquefied natural gas
storage tanks, and two berths to accommodate vessels with a capacity of up to
267,000 cubic meters.
Including owners' costs and contingencies, Cheniere will spend a total of $10.5
billion to $11 billion on its
Corpus Christi
liquefaction project, it said.
The company expects construction to commence in 2014 and to be operational in
2018.
Cheniere's losses have widened over the past year as revenue fell and expenses
climbed. Besides the
Corpus Christi
project, the company is also developing six natural gas liquefaction trains for
the Sabine Pass Liquefaction project. Bechtel is also a contractor on that project.
