Though a small crude oil producer, Cameroon saw its crude oil exports
rise in 2013, according to a statement issued Monday by the state-run National
Hydrocarbons Corporation, or SNH.
As at Oct. 31 the SNH had sold 13.143 million barrels on behalf of the state,
up 11.97% from 11,738 million barrels sold in the same period of 2012. It gave
no details as to where the oil was exported.
The statement was signed by SNH Chairman Ferdinand Ngoh Ngoh, who doubles as
the country's Secretary-General of the Presidency.
The SNH announced late last year that
Cameroon
's
crude oil production had dropped due to technical problems encountered by
operators of new wells.
Cameroon
produced 19.7 million barrels of crude oil between Jan. 1 and
Oct. 31, 2013
, down from 22.5 million
barrels in 2012, the SNH said.
The SNH had projected Cameroon's 2013 oil output to reach 24.4 million barrels
from two production basins--the Rio del Rey and Douala-Kribi-Campo basins
located in the south west of the country.
Output in 2014 is expected to rise, as drilling of new wells started in
November, the SNH said without providing figures.
Depleted and aging wells, including obsolete equipment, have been blamed for
the fall in the country's oil production.
