US-based Westinghouse Electric Company plans to hire mostly local subcontractors and suppliers for the construction of a new unit to Bulgaria's sole nuclear power plat (NPP) Kozloduy.

Westinghouse sees investment and budget talks on the project taking several months, so that construction works can start by 2016, company officials told a news conference in Sofia.

They added that some 2,000 people would be hired, including administrative staff and construction workers.

The Kozloduy NPP operates two 1,000 megawatt (MW) units. In early 2012, the government in Sofia decided to add a new 1,000 MW unit to the plant, instead of building a 2,000 MW NPP from scratch in another Danubian town, Belene.
